Nämdöskärgården National Park
Sweden's 31st national park — a vast seascape in the outer archipelago, within reach by kayak from Stavsnäs.
The sea, the islands and the wild outer archipelago
Nämdöskärgården National Park was inaugurated in 2025 and is Sweden's second national park with a marine focus. It protects a large sea area with thousands of islands, islets and skerries in the outer Stockholm archipelago.
Here the leafy islands of the inner archipelago meet the open sea. Bare rock, bird skerries and wide horizons shape the landscape — one of the most untouched parts of the Stockholm archipelago, with rich bird and marine life. The park's main entrance is on the island of Bullerö, east of Nämdö.
The national park is managed by the County Administrative Board of Stockholm.
Reach the park from Stavsnäs
The national park lies in the trail's southern reaches and is reached by kayak from the Stavsnäs access point. The Runmarö loop takes you out toward the park's waters, and Stavsnäs–Dalarö with the Bullerön extension takes you into the park itself. In summer, Bullerö is also reachable by boat from Stavsnäs.
These are the trail's most exposed waters, with longer open crossings — plan your trip around the weather and your own experience. See stages, crossings and maps on the trail page.
A protected area — paddle gently
In a national park, special rules apply to protect nature. Large parts are bird sanctuaries with access bans during nesting season (typically 1 February–15 August). Keep your distance from birds and seals, follow the signs on site and travel invisibly — leave no trace. Read more in the safety guide.
